ELGIN B. W. Raymond
The BW Raymond Watch was named after Elgin's founder, and former mayor of Chicago, B. W. Raymond. The B.W. Raymond moniker only appeared on watches that Elgin believed represented the absolute pinnacle of engineering and accuracy.
“The B. W. Raymond is striking in its simplicity. The black numerals and the white dial strongly suggest a railroad watch.”
This is an absolutely pristine B. W. Raymond Elgin Railroad Grade wristwatch, ref. 2286 and dated from circa 1961, made by the famous U.S.A. watch markers Elgin Watch Company. It is a manual-winding watch with an original Elgin movement, 23 jewels, caliber grade 730A, sub second, adjusted to 6 positions, U.S.A. made. The American Railroad Standard of timekeeping was 4 seconds per day, or 30 seconds per week. This is a tighter tolerance than COSC Chronometer certification.
The 730A movement inside has a flat free sprung hairspring, also dura balance regulator (balance with two regulating weights, shifted simultaneously along the spiral-shaped spokes with a regulator lever). Elgin combined settings (similar to Kif Duofix) for balance; shock protection is realized by the elastically balance spokes. Some argue that the 730A movement was the absolute finest American Made movement of all time.
It has a GORGEOUS 35.5mm round case and very unique lugs design, all 10K gold filled. The case back has a beautiful engraved “To B. N. Whitmire A. G. C. E. from the Members of Div. 327”. Also, RR6 7383 10K Gold Filled.
The dial has been replaced for a new-old-stock original Elgin B. W. Raymond dial, white color with bold Arabic Numerals and minute tracks, black matching hands as well.
It is coming with a new-old-stock signed “Genuine Lizard Canada” brow two-piece strap. Also, it is coming in an original Elgin display box.
Runs very well, it is in worn condition.

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men's watches typically measure between 29-36mm (some larger, some smaller) wide excluding the crown. In the listing details we typically try to do our best to list all pertinent dimensions of a watch. If you don't see it, or we failed to do so, please reach out to us. Women's watches from the 1900s-1970s were also much smaller than todays offerings. Please also feel free to ask any questions you have pertaining to size.
We prefer to shoot photographs outside when weather is permitting. However, when we shoot indoors, please be aware that we shoot our photographs inside of lightboxes that are lit with 360 LED bulbs. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust light when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.
The condition is pre-owned.
The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended.

It will be carefully packed.
